21  Consumer Complaints / Consumer News, Warnings and Product Recalls / Disney Recalls Children's Light Up Watches on: February 17, 2011, 11:58:04 am
Hundreds of watches sold at Walt Disney World have been recalled, because they can potentially burn children's skin.

The watches were also sold at Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line ships and the Magic of Disney Shop at Orlando International Airport.

Disney, along with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, said the batteries in the watches can interact with the stainless steel backing, causing the burning.

If your child has one of the watches, officials advised that you immediately take it away from children, and contact Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, at (877) 560-6477, for information on how to return the watch for a $40 refund.

The phone line is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

24  Consumer Complaints / Consumer News, Warnings and Product Recalls / Borders Files for Bankruptcy Closing Stores on: February 16, 2011, 10:20:09 am
Reuters reports that retail bookseller Borders is filing for Chapter 11 and will be closing stores nationwide.

Quote
(Reuters) - Borders Group Inc (BGP.N) filed for bankruptcy protection and said it planned to close nearly one-third of its bookstores, after years of shriveling sales that made it impossible to manage its crushing debt load.

The long-expected Chapter 11 filing will give the second-largest U.S. bookstore chain a chance to fix its finances and shrink its business at a time when buyers are increasingly going online rather than visiting megastores. The bankruptcy could help larger rival Barnes & Noble Inc (BKS.N), which also is struggling, by reducing the number of competing stores.

28  Consumer Complaints / Telemarketer Complaints / Re: Discovery Marketing & Distributing Inc. (Rainsoft) Orlando, FL SUBWAY on: November 05, 2010, 11:09:54 am
Discovery Marketing & Distributing Inc. (Rainsoft) does indeed have an A+ rating with the BBB as you can see from the link below...

http://www.bbb.org/central-florida/business-reviews/water-filtration-and-purification-equipment/discovery-marketing-and-distributing-inc-rainsoft-in-orlando-fl-102651

However, they have only been an accredited business since January 2010. Also, with the BBB, a rating only indicates that the  business responds to complaints.

If you search ripoffreport.com for Discovery Marketing, it seems they have a number of complaints

http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/Discovery-Marketing.aspx

The Subway Coupon offers received by the members complaining here were actually distributed by a DBA of Discovery Marketing known as DMD Inc.

29  Consumer Complaints / Internet Based Business Complaints / Forum Spammer Low Cost Links (lowcostlinks.com) on: August 12, 2010, 11:22:24 pm
Forum owners and webmasters beware of a link building service called Low Cost Links (lowcostlinks.com)

They claim to be a professional link building service but they are nothing but spammers. From their website :

Quote
Every link we make to your site is dofollow, filled with your desired keywords, and indexed  in the search engines with the help of at least 20 indexing links made for each of the dofollow forum links we make to your website! (Basically creating a powerful link pyramid or linkwheel!)

Website owners need to beware of using this service to build backlinks because the method these spammers use will only get your site banned from Google and other search engines.

Here's a good article from another forum owner who confronted this spammer

I Kill Spammers: LowCostLinks.com: Another scumbag forum-spamming

and another very thorough research of this spammer and his details

Spammer : [Canada] LowCostLinks .com

All forum owners and webmasters are urged to avoid to block/avoid this dirtbag.

30  Consumer Complaints / eBay and Paypal Complaints / IRS Officer Caught For Not Reporting eBay Sales on: April 22, 2010, 03:12:01 pm
From Forbes online, this article might be interesting to eBay members who just payed their taxes...

------
In a decision this week, Special Trial Judge John F. Dean also upheld the IRS' assertion of $2,486 in negligence penalties against Andrea Fabian Orellana, calling her attitude towards preparing her tax returns "cavalier." According to Dean's written opinion, Orellana testified that she never bothered to read the IRS instructions when she prepared her tax return and didn't think she had to maintain records of her eBay activities since she wasn't "in business" and was simply conducting an "online garage sale."
